Description:
Anne Manners, Lady Roos, v John Manners, Lord John Roos, afterwards 1st Duke of Rutland; restitution of conjugal rights, and divorce (adultery).
John Manners, afterwards 1st Duke of Rutland (1638-1711) married Anne Pierrepont (1631-1697), daughter of Henry Pierrepont, 1st Marquess of Dorchester, in 1658. A legal separation was granted in the Court of Arches (Roos v Roos), and subsequently a Parliamentary divorce (the first in England) which allowed the parties to re-marry. Anne married Henry Vaughan on 11 March 1674/5 at St. Marylebone (E7/34). She brought a suit for divorce against Henry Vaughan in 1681 (see the Arches case Vaughan v Vaughan).

Sentence of Giles Sweit, Official Principal of the Court of Arches in the case Roos v Roos. The sentence is in favour of Lord Roos, finding that the marriage was valid and that Lady Roos committed adultery. The sentence is divorce on the grounds of adultery. 28 Feb. 1665.
