'Nicholas Machiavell his Principles'. An anonymous English translation of 'The Prince' by Niccolo Machiavelli (1469-1527). Late 16th century. Machiavelli's 'Il Principe' was first published in 1532. The first English translation to be published was that by Edward Dacres, printed in 1640. Several earlier English translations circulated in manuscript. The text here does not correspond to Dacres' translation or to any of the documented translations, including those recorded in Alessandra Petrina, 'Machiavelli in the British Isles...'
