Subject:

Fulham Papers
|
Description:
|
167-8. Anonymous petition addressed to the 'Archbishop of London'. Begs him to do something to secure the release of mulattoes, who are often slaves to their brothers and sisters, as the writer asserts himself to be.
[This item is in fact mis-sorted and, although bound in the volume for Bermuda and Jamaica, is really an anonymous petition from a slave in Virginia. Originally catalogued by Professor Manross as 'Anonymous petition to Bishop Gibson, July 4, 1723'. In fact the letter is dated 4 Aug 1723 at the head, and may have been written over a period; the date 8 September 1723 occurs at the foot.]
