BRUT CHRONICLE (IN ENGLISH)
Description:
The Brut Chronicle to 1419, ending like British Library, MS. Stowe 69, and Lambeth Palace, MS. 738, in the account of the siege of Rouen. Begins f. 1: 'Here may a man hure hou Englond was ferst called Albion and thurgh wham hit hadde that name. In the noble lande of Surrye ... oure en[glischmen].' The text corresponds closely to the printed edition by Brie (see Publication Note), but two unnumbered chapters not in Brie occur (ff. 49-51) after chapter 101. Leaves missing after ff. 160, 165, 183 contained the text in the printed edition by Brie pp. 332/4-329/13, 341/25-345/20, 379/4-389/17. The last leaf, f. 184, is now only a small fragment and most of the text in the printed edition pp. 389/17-390/29 is missing.
