Syon Abbey Requiem Offices
Description: 
Requiem offices of Syon Abbey, Middlesex. The liturgy here, which was unique to the Bridgettine abbey of Syon, includes the daily offices, the Hours of the Cross, offices for the sick and dying, a litany (with St. Bridget), the requiem offices, prayers for the dead, prayers 'in tyme of discipline', etc. At. f. 5v is a coloured drawing of the five wounds of Christ, the symbol of the Abbey, inscribed 'ihesu mercy lady helpe'. At ff. 37v-39r are ordained seven obits for founders and benefactors of the Abbey, Henry V and his queen Katherine of Valois, Edward IV and his queen Elizabeth Woodville, Henry Fitzhugh (d. 1426), Thomas Fishbourne (d. 1428), Richard Duke of York (d. 1460) and his wife Cecily Nevil.
